Alabama 811 has completed another successful year in the ongoing mission to reduce damages to underground facilities. We ended the year processing almost 640K locate requests in 2025. This was a 6% increase over the previous year. Notification to Alabama 811 is just a step in the damage prevention process. Our member companies’ commitment to marking their facilities and developing their own in-house programs is a key factor as well.
The gas and oil industry - pipeline and distribution - is one of the more closely regulated underground facilities. They have oversight at both the federal and state levels to ensure safe and effective operations. The pipeline operators in Alabama are very safety-conscious and work hard to ensure the integrity of their facilities and spend a great deal of their resources working to reduce the risk of damage to those facilities through excavation activities. These pipeline operators embrace the 811 message and are fantastic ambassadors of the damage prevention message. In this edition of the 811 Magazine, the focus is on the pipeline industry, its technology, and dedication to safety.
