As we approach the end of 2025, construction across West Virginia has remained strong, with ticket volumes holding steady at higher than normal levels for this time of the year. We have to ask ourselves: What are the driving factors? In my opinion, the answer is a combination of many factors, including the continued adoption of best practices, the increase in broadband installations, increased use of the 811 system, more frequent educational opportunities through face-to-face meetings, and our expanded outreach have all played important roles in the increase.
Not only are ticket numbers up, but phone calls to WV811 have also increased. More people are reaching out with questions—asking how or what we can do, and can we do this or that and still be in compliance with West Virginia’s dig laws? Such questions are encouraging and show that our efforts to connect with stakeholders are truly paying off.
Broadband projects are up around 20% statewide. Our ongoing work with contractors to ensure they understand and follow state laws has been critical in supporting this growth safely and efficiently.
The “old ways” of doing things—like gripping and ripping or failing to mark tickets on time—are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Damage prevention across West Virginia is evolving, and we’re proud to see a culture of compliance and cooperation taking hold. Together, we’re building safer, stronger communities across the state.
As 2025 closes, let me wish you the best of the holiday season and hope you are able to enjoy time with your families. Thanks for all you’ve done this year to make it memorable, and we look forward to working with you in 2026.
