Let me welcome you to our first issue highlighting progress made in protecting underground utilities here in West Virginia. 2026 promises to be busy and filled with opportunities to work together to keep our employees and the communities they work in safe.
Since coming to West Virginia 811 as its Executive Director, one of my primary goals has been for WV811 to be a great resource for stakeholders across the state. Our tailgate meetings and safety training have been well received, and in 2026, we’re ramping up, not only training across the state, but we’re also teaming up with the surrounding state 811 centers to show the differences in dig laws and the importance of excavators contacting the 811 when they cross state lines. Training is available, and we will make it happen.
Probably the best way to know when we’re training close to your company is to keep an eye out on our webpage, www.wv811.com. Go to the events tab to see what has been scheduled. If you don’t see a training class in your area, give us a call and we’ll set one up with you and your employees. For the most part, the training classes are set up to teach more about the West Virginia Dig Law and the enforcement process currently in effect. The other thing these classes provide is the opportunity for you to provide feedback from your perspective about what is working, what is not working and what changes you think need to be made in the law and the way we operate. Give us a call!
One more thing, if you planned on attending the Contractors Expo in Charleston, scheduled for March 25 – 26, we hope your plan was to come by our booth to see us. Thanks, and a big shoutout to all the contractors, owners/operators, locators and sponsors for all the support you give to West Virginia 811. It is not only encouraging but makes it possible for us to do more for you and the industry. We are excited for the progress made in 2025 and expect even greater things in 2026! Let’s continue to work together to protect our underground utility lines. You are the reason we are here. Let us know how we can best help you succeed. And remember to make that call to 811! It is a great first step to a successful project.
It’s not just the law… It’s the right thing to do!
