The Damage Prevention Council of Texas (DPC of Texas) continued its mission of promoting safe excavation practices across the state during the second quarter of 2026, hosting a series of successful Excavation Safety Events. These regional events brought together excavators, utility operators, municipalities, engineers, line locators, contractors, and industry partners to share knowledge, strengthen relationships, and reinforce the importance of protecting underground infrastructure.
DPC of Texas celebrated National Safe Digging Month with an Excavation Safety Day in Plano on April 28. The event welcomed attendees from across North Texas for a day of education, networking, and collaboration. Industry experts presented on best practices, damage prevention initiatives, and current challenges facing the excavation community.
Along with the Excavation Safety Day in Plano, the DPC spread awareness across the state through a targeted geofencing campaign aimed at the ten counties reporting the highest damage ratios. Through this campaign, the DPC of Texas achieved over 10 million impressions, routing the mobile user to the homeowner education page on our website. The focus is to educate homeowners on the 811 process and promote safety through videos shared on our website and our social media channels. Momentum continued throughout May and June, as DPC of Texas hosted additional Excavation Safety Events in communities across the state in Austin, Humble, Lubbock, and Kileen. Each event provided attendees with valuable educational sessions, regulatory updates, and opportunities to engage directly with utility owners, pipeline operators, Texas811 representatives, and line locating professionals.
Beyond the presentations, the events reinforced one of the DPC of Texas’ greatest strengths - bringing together diverse stakeholders who share a common goal of protecting people, property, and critical underground infrastructure. Through open dialogue and collaboration, participants exchanged ideas and worked toward practical solutions that strengthen damage prevention efforts across Texas. Throughout the events, we educated a total of 1,330 individuals, with more than half of those being new to our excavation safety events. Attendees were able to discuss local issues, share lessons learned, and promote best practices that reduce damages and improve public safety.
